1.4 million grant for research on cannabis in epilepsy

Good news for patients with epilepsy in The Netherlands. The Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports has made a grant of 1.4 million euros available for research into cannabis for this condition. It is the second subsidy that the VWS has made available for research into cannabis as a medicine. Last year, 1.9 million was also released for research on cannabis in neuropathic pain.

The grant of 1.4 million for research into cannabis in epilepsy, we owe to Vera Bergkamp of D66. In 2018 she submitted a motion calling for short-term research into the effects of cannabis in (children with) epilepsy. That call was heeded last month. Researchers who want to claim the subsidy money can apply until September 28 at VWS partner ZonMw.
